{"id":12757,"date":"2020-01-28T16:10:22","date_gmt":"2020-01-28T16:10:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/race01.wp\/resources\/raza-e-igualdad-celebra-el-nombramiento-de-personas-trans-en-cargos-publicos-en-colombia-y-condena-actos-de-discriminacion-basados-en-genero-u-orientacion-sexual\/"},"modified":"2023-05-10T11:26:48","modified_gmt":"2023-05-10T11:26:48","slug":"raza-e-igualdad-celebra-el-nombramiento-de-personas-trans-en-cargos-publicos-en-colombia-y-condena-actos-de-discriminacion-basados-en-genero-u-orientacion-sexual","status":"publish","type":"resources","link":"https:\/\/raceandequality.org\/es\/resources\/raza-e-igualdad-celebra-el-nombramiento-de-personas-trans-en-cargos-publicos-en-colombia-y-condena-actos-de-discriminacion-basados-en-genero-u-orientacion-sexual\/","title":{"rendered":"Raza e Igualdad celebra el nombramiento de personas trans en cargos p\u00fablicos en Colombia y condena actos de discriminaci\u00f3n basados en g\u00e9nero u orientaci\u00f3n sexual"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"justify-text\">On December 26, 2019, the mayor-elect\nof Manizales, a city in the Colombian department of Caldas, announced\nthat\u00a0the well-known trans activist Matilda\u00a0Gonzalez would\u00a0lead\nthe city\u2019s Office of Women\u2019s and Gender Affairs.\u00a0Gonzalez holds a law\ndegree from the University of the Andes and a Master of Laws in international law\nfrom American\u00a0University.\u00a0She has worked for the Inter-American\nCommission on Human Rights (IACHR)\u2019s Rapporteurship on the Rights of LGBTI People,\u00a0the\nLGBTI rights organization <em>Colombia Diversa<\/em> and the Office of Childhood\nand Adolescence in the Colombian Family Welfare Institute. \u00a0In addition,\nshe has consulted for the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and\nIntersex Association (ILGA) and for the International Network of Civil\nLiberties Organizations (INCLO).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"justify-text\">In another groundbreaking\nappointment, the mayor-elect of Bogot\u00e1 recently named Deysi Johana Olarte\nNavarro as the city\u2019s Deputy Director of LGBTI Affairs.\u00a0As a political\nscientist at the National University of Colombia, Deisy studied gender-based\nviolence,\u00a0national and international\u00a0policies\u00a0on transgender issues.\nShe is also recognized for her extensive career as a grassroots activist, working\nwith\u00a0trans\u00a0people\u00a0in Kennedy, Ciudad\u00a0Bol\u00edvar\u00a0and\nSanta\u00a0Fe, which are all among Bogot\u00e1\u2019s most marginalized areas.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"justify-text\">In Colombia, transgender people\nnot only suffer daily acts of direct violence and discrimination but also face prejudices\nthat limit their access to work, education<ins>,<\/ins> and health.\nIn turn, they suffer criminalization, segregation, marginalization<ins>,<\/ins>\nand poverty.\u00a0The\u00a0appointments of these trans women\u00a0represent breakthroughs\nfor equity, diversity, and inclusion.\u00a0As directors of important public\nbodies, Ms. Gonzalez and Ms. Olarte will have the power to formulate and\nimplement public policies that seek to guarantee\u00a0the\u00a0rights\u00a0of\u00a0women\nand\u00a0LGBTI people. Race\u00a0and\u00a0Equality\u00a0celebrates and encourages\nthe appointment of\u00a0people\u00a0with\u00a0diverse gender identities to\nexecutive positions.
