The Institute on Race, Equality, and Human Rights works with counterparts in the Afro-descendant and indigenous communities and the LGBT+ movement in Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, and Peru, as well as with regional Afro-descendant and LGBT+ networks in the Americas and a broad range of organizations and individual activists throughout the continent to combat racial and ethnic discrimination and discrimination due to sexual orientation and gender identity. To that end, the Institute provides them with the tools they need to participate in the political decision-making process and defend their rights in regional and international human rights institutions within the Organization of American States (OAS) and United Nations (UN).
The Institute is registered in the District of Columbia as a 501(c)(3) non-governmental organization.
