We believe that sustainable long-term impact is achieved through collaboration between civil society, states and regional/international mechanisms. Through our partnerships, we have collectively been able to secure important resolutions that call attention to the protection of individuals and communities at risk.
Over the years, we have also led the conversation in the Americas about the importance of adopting the Inter-American Convention against Racism, Racial Discrimination and Related Forms of Intolerance (CIRDI), approved by the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Antigua, Guatemala in 2013. As part of our regional programming and in the framework of the International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024), we are currently building the capacity of Afro-Latino and indigenous organizations to work with their governments and their representatives at the OAS to advocate for the States’ signing and ratification of the Convention. Currently, six OAS-member States have signed onto and ratified the Convention – Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico and Uruguay.
