Using the Universal System is crucial for the advancement of human rights, in particular the Treaty Bodies, Special Procedures Mandates, and the Universal Periodic Review. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working in close with the Finance manager and the Senior Accountant, the Staff Accountant will prepare and analyze Race and Equality’s financial records.
  • Oversee daily accounting activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash disbursements and receipts, and proper coding of transactions to the general ledger.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank statements.
  • Review budgets and compare with actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
  • Process the monthly closing and account reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Support Race and Equality in the development of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including the board, funders, and auditors.
  • Proactively identify trends, variances, and potential risks.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and assist with annual audits, Prepared By Client (PBC) schedule, and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Assist the Race and Equality finance manager in the annual budgeting and planning process.
  • Ensure compliance with restricted funds, including grant agreements and related reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for financial, project/program, and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for US government and foundation grants.
  • Assist in the preparation of restricted funds and grant proposals and budgets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting field.
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience, with non-profit accounting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting principles.
  • Strong accounting software (QuickBooks) experience preferred.
  • Experience in MS Office, with intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong time management/organization skills; strong attention to detail; deadline oriented. Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations governing non-profits (e.g., Form 990, grants, and donor-restricted funds).
  • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities: Working in close partnership with our partners, the Executive Director, and the LGBTI Program Officer, the LGBTI Program Assistant will provide administrative, logistical, and financial support to the LGBTI team, which includes officers in diverse countries (60% of the PA’s time). Other duties include supporting LGBTI social media coverage; drafting correspondence; translation of documents into English, Spanish and/or Portuguese; copy-editing and formatting documents; assisting with the publication, revision, and distribution of reports, memos, and press work; assisting with the logistical coordination of public and virtual events, conferences, and delegations; attending OAS meetings and other public events; accompanying LGBTI partners while in Washington D.C.; coordinating travel to and from multiple countries; researching LGBTI funding opportunities; staying informed about SOGI issues in different UN bodies including the Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on SOGI (40% of the PA’s time). Other duties not listed here, include assisting in research projects, which will be assigned depending on the hire’s areas of interests and abilities, and possibility of limited travel.

Qualifications: Entry Level Position-Bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Law, Women’s/Gender Studies or related field. Two years of experience working on LGBTI human rights issues or related field on Latin America. Mature political judgment and knowledge of Latin American. Demonstrated capacity to understand and work on SOGI issues. Knowledge of/experience with LGBTI issues in the region preferred. Highly organized and methodical. Good judgement, ability to quickly problem-solve and work under tight deadlines. Able to collaborate and work well with diverse groups. Fluency in Spanish is essential, strong knowledge of Portuguese is helpful. Must be US citizen or legal resident with work permit.

Qualifications: Advanced university degree in Law or equivalent specialized study of human rights preferred; 3 to 5 years of experience working in human rights or related field in Latin America; mature political judgment and knowledge of Latin American political and legal traditions; knowledge/experience on ethnic and racial discrimination, LGBTI issues, and religious freedom issues in the region; demonstrated capacity to understand and work on sexuality and gender-related issues; work experience in capacity building and community mobilization, especially in closed societies; strong writing and advocacy skills; knowledge/experience in the Inter-American and UN Systems required; strategic litigation experience at the national or regional level; ability to work under pressure; ability to travel  internationally; ability to administer programs; experience on use of social media; fluency in Spanish and English essential, knowledge of Portuguese and French helpful. Job Description:  Working in close partnership with our partners, Program Officers and the Executive Director in Washington, D.C., this position provides administrative and programmatic support for the organization. In addition to typing, filing and scheduling, performs duties such as financial record keeping, coordination of meetings and conferences, obtaining supplies, coordinating direct mailings, and working on special projects. Also, answers correspondence and assembles highly confidential and sensitive information. Deals with a diverse group of important external callers and visitors. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload.

Essential Functions

  • Conducting short-term research assignments on a variety of themes; working independently and within a team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects;
  • Drafting and editing in Spanish and English a range of correspondence and other documents;
  • Monitoring news and political events in the countries in which Race and Equality works;
  • Attending meetings, events, and conferences related to the work of Race and Equality;
  • Researching on funding opportunities according to Race and Equality’s project areas;
  • Providing logistical and administrative support to field offices and regional staff;
  • Organizing and managing domestic and international travel logistics, meetings, events, and conference calls for Race and Equality staff and partner organizations;
  • General programmatic support, including other duties related to research, writing, and direct advocacy, depending on program needs and candidate abilities

Position Summary: This position is part-time and reports to the Executive Director and manages, maintains, and coordinates a variety of projects and office services for our domestic and international program staff.

Job Description: Working in close partnership with our partners, the Executive Director, and the Director of Programs, the Latin America Country Program Manager will oversee the successful implementation of programming in the country to which she/he/they is assigned. This includes aiding in the coordination of the overall strategy for the country, ensuring the timely completion of deliverables in existing projects, and identifying new areas for growth. The Program Manager will be responsible for the development and periodic updating of a strategic plan for the country, taking into account the current country context and Race and Equality’s priority areas of work. These include, but are not limited to: racial and SOGI discrimination; restrictions on civic space and the exercise of related rights; enjoyment of ESCR, especially for historically marginalized groups; and the intersectionality of rights. The Program Manager will also help to design and implement programs to build the capacity of human rights activists in Latin America working in very difficult political environments. In coordination with the Country Team and the Legal Team, she/he/they will organize human rights trainings; facilitate international and domestic advocacy and strategic litigation; conduct research on current trends on human rights violations in the region; and prepare and review written reports of program impact and successes, including administrative and logistical aspects. Finally, the Program Manager will also be tasked d planning of new activities for the country to which she/he/they is assigned.

Qualifications:

Required

    • Advanced university degree
    • 5 to 7 years of experience working in human rights or related field in Latin America
    • Mature political judgment and knowledge of Latin American political and legal traditions
    • Significant program/grant management experience
    • Knowledge/experience on ethnic and racial discrimination and LGBTI issues in the region
    • Demonstrated capacity to understand and work on sexuality and gender-related issues
    • Work experience in capacity building and community mobilization
    • Fluency in English and Spanish
    • Excellent oral/written communication skills with an emphasis on advocacy in English and Spanish
    • Knowledge/experience in the Inter-American and UN Systems
    • Strategic litigation experience at the national or regional level
    • Ability to work under pressure

Duties include managing and overseeing the work of the Legal Team; facilitating international and domestic advocacy and strategic litigation; developing legal strategies to further the mission and vision of Race and Equality and our partner organizations; organizing/conducting human rights training; research on current trends on human rights violations in the region; preparing written reports of program impact and successes, including administrative and logistical aspects; report writing to donors, and keeping our website updated with information. The Senior Legal Program Officer will also work in designing programs and planning activities.

Qualifications: Advanced university degree in Law. Specialized study of human rights preferred; 5 to 8 years of experience working in human rights or related field in Latin America; mature political judgment and knowledge of Latin American political and legal traditions; knowledge/experience on ethnic and racial discrimination and LGBTI issues in the region; demonstrated capacity to understand and work on sexuality and gender-related issues; work experience in capacity building; strong writing and advocacy skills; knowledge/experience in the Inter-American and UN Systems required; strategic litigation experience at the national or regional level; ability to work under pressure; ability to travel internationally; ability to administer programs; fluency in Spanish and English essential, knowledge of Portuguese and French helpful. Excellent oral/written communication skills in English and Spanish are required. US work authorization required.

The International Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights (IIREHR) is an international, human rights capacity-building organization that works side by side with activists in Latin America to enhance their ability to promote and protect the human rights of marginalized and vulnerable people who suffer from discrimination based on their national or ethnic origin, their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Position Summary: This position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for managing, maintaining, and coordinating a variety of projects and office services for our domestic and international program staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Manage daily office activities to ensure the smooth operation of day-to-day business; maintain conference room reservation calendars; book conference rooms, set up and organize meetings and catering; oversee inventory of supplies for office and order supplies as needed; provide support to Executive Director, program staff and visitors; print, scan, fax, photocopy and distribute accordingly; coordinate and book both domestic and international travel and other arrangements as needed; coordinate with the Logistics Officer in Latin America for reservation of hotels and events; prepare executive travel expense reports and arrange for reimbursement; conduct procurement based on USG grants requirements; assist with the preparation of proposals and letters, ensuring that documents are on letterhead and delivered in a timely manner; prepare and maintain general information books and office procedural manuals; greet visitors, screen telephone calls, arrange conference calls, respond to general inquiries and handle messages for staff; coordinate daily distribution of incoming/out-going USPS mail, Federal Express, UPS packages, and related services; collect time-sheets, vacation requests, travel authorization forms and check requests from staff; perform needs assessments, conduct research (via telephone, internet, referrals, etc.) and make recommendations for new vendors and services; other general office duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualification: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; 5 or more years experience in office management and administrative support, including experience supporting multiple executives/managers/personnel; knowledge of USG Grants compliance preferred; strong verbal and written communication skills; strong customer service skills; strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to effectively prioritize work and perform multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work independently, manage various daily requirements and meet strict deadlines; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and general office equipment; bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
